Miracle Principles 44-45

February 2, 2021

44. Miracles arise from a miraculous state of mind. This state of mind goes out to anyone, even without the awareness of the miracle worker himself.

As we read yesterday in Cameo 10, it was Helen’s miraculous state of mind that made her available to give miracles to Dave Diamond, his family, her husband Louis, and his mother. In each case the action of her impulse was different. Her miraculous state of mind set up the circumstances that allowed her miracles to undo previous states of lack of love for her and for Dave. It is because she was willing to question her impulse to take the child that her impulse could be used impersonally to take the miracle to the place it was meant to go. This enabled the oneness of the mind in the miraculous state to “unite all creations with their Creator.” (44.2)

45. The miracle is an expression of an inner awareness of Christ and an acceptance of His Atonement.

When we choose to give our minds to spirit for use as a medium for creation, we gain an inner awareness of Christ and we accept the correction of our level confusion; that is to say we now accept God’s authority on our identity being spirit. This brings the mind back into a state of grace.

The online Oxford language dictionary defines a state of grace as “a condition of being free from sin.”

The Course says that “Grace is the natural state of every Son of God. When he is not in a state of grace, he is out of his natural environment and does not function well.” (T-7.X.2:1-2)

From miracle principle 35 we practiced with

Spirit is in the state of grace forever.

My reality is only my spirit.

Therefore, I am in the state of grace forever.

Identifying with this state we “naturally become gracious both to the host within and the stranger without.” (45.2:1) Where we had judgment of ourselves and others, we now have compassion, mercy, and charity in its place. Now this “stranger” becomes our brother. This is a healing miracle as it heals the idea of being estranged from each other and also our sense of estrangement from God.

We may want to act on every loving impulse we have but we must let ourselves be instructed in the action aspect of them as they “should be Christ-controlled because of His complete awareness of the whole plan.” (3:3) Our miracle mindedness brings our minds into the state of grace so that our natural expression is of love and that will not be wasted but the active component or the landing place of that expression is understood only by Christ.

A Reflective Exercise:

At least once today try to become aware of any impulses you may have to offer a miracle to someone. Instead of acting on it right away take a moment and ask for instruction on what to do with your impulse. Try to let go of any ideas you might have about what this should look like. Maybe say something like “This miracle impulse I feel is likely distorted so I need your help in opening my mind to its miraculous state. Tell me what to do and I will to do it.” Wait for instruction. If you do not receive any, remind yourself that “the miracles you are told not to perform have not lost their value. They are still expressions of your own state of grace.” (3:1) If you do receive instructions, try to follow them.

Suggested Practice:

My miraculous state of mind blesses all my brothers with grace.
